GraphQL is a data query language for APIs and a runtime for fulfilling those queries with your existing data. Developed by Facebook, open sourced and now used by hundreds of companies ranging from GitHub to Intuit, it gives clients the power to ask for exactly what they need and nothing more, making it easier to evolve interfaces over time. As such, it is ideally suited for mobile applications and is the next big thing in APIs, most likely to replace REST architectures in the future. Exactly how does GraphQL work though and exactly what changes are needed on the server and client to support it?

We will cover these topics as part of our morning workshop. By combining theory sessions with hands-on exercises, you will walk away with a good overview of the benefits of GraphQL and the tools in its ecosystem. The workshop is aimed at lead developers and startup CTOs who have already heard of GraphQL and want to get a better understanding of its benefits.

About the coaches:

Markus is a serial entrepreneur based in San Francisco. He has founded three software companies and served as a post-founding CTO in others. In his capacity as a consultant, he has helped companies ranging from early ideas to publicly listed ones in creating novel products and services. Markus currently runs Skydom.io - an API/backend consultancy focusing on GraphQL.

Oleg has worked with over thirty mediatech companies in Europe and the US over the past fifteen years as CTO and founder. He’s been involved in a number of open source projects, spoken at conferences and organized meetups. He has also been an early stage investor, coach at Startup Sauna and done tech due diligence work for a number of European VCs.
