Startups are disrupting one area of the economy after another. They create tech-innovations in fast iteration cycles and often leave the big players of the old economy behind. Why is it that companies with centuries of experience in their domain seem paralysed, while the new players conquer their markets? This is indeed a very complex question to analyse, and much has been said already.
In the November edition of ProductTank, we want to discuss how old economy companies move to digitalising their organisation and business. What are the strategies they are following and who are the internal players? How much unexpected change is happening within their company culture and business model?
We invited two guests to learn about their digitalisation journey: Where they stand now, what their pain points are, and where they are heading.
Philipp is an expert in the digital industry, having worked there for over 15 years. His experience in leading product management positions ranges from startups to well established companies in the old economy. Philipp has also founded his own companies in the field of innovation consulting, art and social responsibility. Apart from leading product teams, he enjoys spreading his knowledge, e.g. as a teacher for innovation management at Steinbeis University at the institute School of Management & Innovation. In addition, he publishes books about agile project management and gamification for recruiting processes. Recently, he joined the Berlin based Design Sprint Academy as a partner where he works as a coach, consultant and workshop facilitator.
More than 13 years ago, Jekaterina started her career as a psychologist with a specialization in user experience. She acquired most of her work experience at ImmobilienScout 24, the successful, at that time fast growing start-up ImmobilienScout24. There she provided valuable input on different levels: as the team leader of the user research team, as Senior Manager Business Development and as Head of Product Management for the market segment of property developers.
Currently, Jekaterina works as Head of eCommerce & Sales Innovation in the well known Berlin old economy company - the BVG, a position where she has the chance to apply her digital experiences to build great products for the customers.
