Talks:

Jimmy Fagerholm: From REST to gRPC: Evolving APIs for the Next Generation of Web Services

As web services continue to evolve, so do the APIs that underpin them. In this presentation, we will explore the latest advancements in API design and implementation by examining the transition from REST to gRPC.

We will start by introducing gRPC, a high-performance, open-source framework for building distributed systems. We will cover the main features and benefits of gRPC, including its support for multiple programming languages, its efficient binary protocol, and its ability to generate code from protocol buffer (proto) files.

Next, we will dive deeper into proto files, which are a key component of gRPC. We will explain what they are, how they work, and how they can be used to define the messages and services that make up a gRPC API.

Finally, we will demonstrate how to code with gRPC by walking through a short demo. We will show how to use proto files to define a simple gRPC API, and then generate client and server code from those files using the gRPC tools. We will also cover some best practices for working with gRPC, including error handling and middlewares.

By the end of this presentation, you will have a better understanding of gRPC and its capabilities, and you will be equipped with the knowledge you need to start building your own high-performance APIs for the next generation of web services.

Fredrik Sjöblom: A decade of Hypermedia API's

Starting with a short intro on what exactly makes up a Hypermedia driven API. Then taking a deep dive into lessons learnt and insights from building Hypermedia API's.

Digging in to what it take to craft a API that can continue to evolve over time. Touching on generic concepts like HTTP, media types, performance and scalability. But also server side tooling and generic clients.
